Updated (March 23, 2025): Tata Motors introduced the 2025 version of the Tiago and updated the prices of the Tiago CNG variants. This article includes the latest prices, variant-wise feature distribution and buying recommendations for the Tiago CNG.
Note: We have updated our value for money calculation algorithm for all fuel options other than petrol available in a single make & model. We are now also taking into account the following:
- Performance differences: For instance, diesel engines have much higher torque output than a typical petrol engine without turbocharger. Also, CNG vehicles offer much lower power and torque than petrol models.
- Mechanical differences: Different fuel options also often bring different transmission options such as diesel may be available with a 6-speed while petrol gets 5-speed. Or diesel may get a more expensive torque converter type automatic while the petrol engine may have a cost-effective AMT type automatic.
- Dimension differences: Difference in wheel size, boot space or ground clearance if applicable.
- Fuel cost: To calculate this, we’re considering the ARAI mileage figures and fuel price in Delhi and the fuel cost savings with the secondary fuel option. We’re only considering a typical usage of 50,000km. If you drive more or less, then you should consider using our V3Cars fuel cost calculator to adjust the fuel expense accordingly.
What Are The Pros And Cons Of Tata Tiago CNG?
The pros or advantages of Tata Tiago CNG are:
- Unlike most other Tata cars, the Tiago has an outstanding feature distribution offering must-have features in lower variants and good-to-have features in higher trims; just like Hyundai Nios
- Unlike most other Tata cars, the Tiago CNG has a simple variant lineup making it easy for buyers to pick a suitable option
- Feature and style updates of the 2025 model make it quite appealing once again
- The only CNG hatchback in its segment with a 4-star GNCAP crash test rating; no longer applicable as BNCAP/GNCAP rating process has changed significantly since the Tiago was tested back in January 2020
- The CNG kit carries a reasonable premium of Rs. 1.0 lakh considering that it also has a usable boot space
- A rare car with the option of factory CNG kit in most variants
- A rare car which offers CNG with automatic transmission straight from the factory
- A rare car with a usable boot space even with CNG kit; Nios is the only other
- Satisfactory ground clearance of 170mm for a hatchback and an option of SUV-like clearance of 181mm with the NRG
- For a non-turbo engine, the torque of the Tiago CNG peaks at a fairly low 3500rpm, which should help with drivability in the city; typically, the torque peaks at 4,000 or higher RPMs
The Tata Tiago CNG has the following shortcomings or problems:
- While a mileage of 26.5kmpkg from a CNG Tiago will save you money, it’s far from the segment leader Celerio’s CNG mileage figure of 35.6kmpkg
- 3-cylinder engine isn’t as refined as the 4-cylinder engines of some of its rivals such as the Ignis and Nios
- Notable features you might miss in the Tiago CNG are front and front armrest, rear AC vents, TPMS, fog lamps, rear washer wiper and cruise control
What Is The Price Of Tata Tiago CNG Variants?
The Tata Tiago CNG has a starting price of Rs. 6.0 lakh for the XE variant. The Tiago CNG is available in 5 main variants — XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ NRG. The top variant of the Tiago with the automatic transmission costs Rs. 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The CNG-manual variants carry a premium of Rs. 55,000 over the CNG-auto variants.

Tata Tiago Petrol vs CNG
Compared to the normal petrol engine, the CNG variants of the Taigo cost exactly Rs. 1.0 lakh more. For this higher price, you obviously get lower fuel costs but you also get a fairly usable boot space of 112 litres. All other CNG hatchbacks make you sacrifice on the boot space as the gas cylinder takes up a lot of cargo volume. With the Tata Tiago, you get the option of CNG powertrain with all the variants except the top trim. Tata is also offering automatic transmission option with the CNG bi-fuel engine which is not offered by any manufacturer.
To recover the higher upfront cost you’re paying over the comparable Tiago petrol variant, you’ll have to drive the Taigo CNG for around 50,000km. If you also want to factor in the smaller boot space and lower performance of the CNG powertrain, then the breakeven figure jumps to ~75,000km.

- Hill start assist
The XM variant of the Tiago CNG adds several must-have features to the mix and it doesn’t offer superior value for money than the lower trim scoring only 67% on our VFM scale. So, this variant is also not recommended. You should stretch your budget a little and at least get the higher XT variant.
Tata Tiago CNG XM vs XT Variant – Price, Feature Comparison
The Tata Tiago XT variant also offers automatic transmission and it costs Rs. 7.85 lakh. And with the manual variant, it costs Rs. 7.30 lakh. It is Rs. 60,000 costlier than the lower XM variant.

In the 2025 Tiago XT CNG variant, you may miss the following features:
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- LED headlamps & DRLs
- TPMS
- Front fog lamps
The XT variant of the Tiago CNG adds more must-have features and offers superior value for money with 78% VFM score. If you don’t want to spend any more, especially on good-to-have features, then this is a suitable variant. If you want an automatic transmission, the VFM score is even better at 86% because of the greater gap between the mileage figures of petrol-AMT and CNG-AMT. However, for a superior ownership experience and better value for money with a few extra good-to-have features, the higher XZ variant earns our top recommendation.
Tata Tiago CNG XT vs XZ Variant – Price, Feature Comparison
The Tata Tiago XZ variant also offers the same powertrain options and it costs Rs. 7.90 lakh with the manual transmission, which is another Rs. 60,000 higher than the lower XT variant.

In the XZ CNG variant of the 2025 Tiago, you may miss the following features:
- Cruise control
- Rear washer wiper
- TPMS
- Front fog lamps
- Premium roof liner
- Keyless entry w/ push-button start/stop
- Front armrest
- Rear AC vents
The XZ variant gets a nice balance of good-to-have and must-have features and it also earns a higher VFM score of 85% with CNG-manual and 91% with CNG-automatic powertrains, respectively. Hence, this is our top recommendation for 2025 Tiago CNG buyers.
Tata Tiago CNG XZ vs XZ NRG Variant – Price, Feature Comparison
The top-spec Tata Tiago XZ NRG variant costs Rs. 8.20 lakh and it is only Rs. 30,000 over the lower XZ variant.

FEATURES OVER XZ |

All-around body cladding |
In the Tiago NRG CNG variant, you may miss the following features:
- Cruise control
- Rear washer wiper
- TPMS
- Front fog lamps
- Premium roof liner
- Front armrest
- Rear AC vents
The Tiago NRG variant also has identical VFM score as the lower XZ variant. That means, it perfectly justifies the price gap over the lower XZ variant. If you want the ground clearance of an SUV without the price premium that that tags along, then the NRG CNG variant is a suitable choice. Unfortunately, this is the most expensive Tiago CNG variant you can buy. So, there’s this reason as well to buy the NRG trim. Those who find the overly-done cladding on the NRG trim can opt for the XZ.
Which Variant Of The Tata Tiago CNG Should You Buy?
For the Tiago CNG buyers, the buying recommendation is fairly straightforward. Among the Tiago CNG-manual variants, the XZ is our top recommendation as it offers the best balance of good-to-have and must-have features while offering good value for money as well. The Tiago NRG CNG is also worth buying if you want high ground clearance. Both of them will offer a nice and balanced ownership experience.
If you don’t want to spend all that much on good-to-have features, and are willing to compromise a bit on the value front, then the XT is worth buying. It gets several must-have features for a reasonable asking price over the Tiago base model with the petrol-manual transmission. According to our VFM algorithm, it offers 78% value for an additional Rs. 2.30 lakh over the base Tiago costing Rs. 5.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

XZ | 85% | Rs. 7,89,990 | Top recommended |
XZ NRG | 85% | Rs. 8,19,990 | Buy if you want better ground clearance |
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION | |||
XT | 86% | Rs. 7,84,990 | Best variant for buyers who prioritise functional features |
XZ | 91% | Rs. 8,44,990 | Top recommended |
XZ NRG | 91% | Rs. 8,74,990 | Buy if you want better ground clearance |
Similarly, among the CNG-automatic variants, the XT is suitable if you don’t want to spend on good-to-have features and have a tiger budget. However, if you can stretch a little, then the XZ is our top recommendation as it offers better value for money. The Tiago NRG with CNG-AMT powertrain is also worth considering if you want the convenience of automatic transmission, low fuel costs of CNG and the ground clearance of an SUV.
What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Tata Tiago CNG?
Compared to the other CNG bi-fuel hatchbacks in the segment, the Tiago CNG’s power output is the highest. However, Swift’s torque output figure is slightly better than the Tiago. But the fuel efficiency figures with CNG are the lowest at 26.49kmpkg.
