• Choice of manual as well as automatic transmission with a diesel engine allows diesel car buyers interested in a stylish car to consider the Curvv; the Basalt only gets petrol engine options
• Style-conscious decisions like large 18-inch machined alloy wheels and flush door handles help the Curvv’s coupe design pop; the Basalt gets up to 16-inch alloy wheels
• Segment-first features like flush door handles, powered tailgate
• 22.4kmpl mileage is the best in class among diesel-SUVs; the diesel-DCT mileage figures aren’t available but you can expect good numbers there as well since DCT is an efficient kind of automatic

• Even the top variant of the Curvv doesn’t get features like rear window curtains, dual-zone auto AC and telescopic steering; if you also factor in some of the less useful features, then the list would also include head-up display, traction control and power adjustment for front passenger seat
• Poor feature distribution — neither the base nor mid-spec variants get enough must-have features to become easy recommendations; for instance, you can’t get TPMS and rear armrest unless you buy a variant with a panoramic sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels (Creative Plus S); split folding rear seats are only available in top 2 variants; MG Astor offers split rear seats, rear armrest, auto AC, rear defogger, power mirrors, front armrest and a touchscreen as standard in a variant costing Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-sh)
• While the information about the Curvv was disseminated pretty accurately and consistently across platforms, some ambiguity remains as neither their brochure nor their website clearly specifies if the Curvv even gets front parking sensors; with the help of their configurator, we were able to confirm that they are available in Creative Plus S and higher variants

The Tata Curvv is available in 6 main variants — Smart, Pure Plus, Creative, Creative Plus S, Accomplished S and Accomplished Plus A. Pure Plus S and Creative S are the sunroof variants of the respective non-sunroof variants.

Further, there are 2 powertrain options:

• 1.5L diesel-manual
• 1.5L diesel-auto (7-speed DCT)

The 1.5L diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission is available in all the variants. The Curvv diesel prices with this powertrain range between Rs. 11.50 lakh and Rs. 17.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The automatic transmission with the diesel engine is available with all variants except the Curvv Smart variant and Curvv Creative variant. The prices of Curvv diesel-automatic variants with the diesel engine start from Rs. 14.0 lakh and go up to Rs. 19.0 lakh. This automatic transmission carries a premium of Rs. 1.50 lakh over the diesel-manual.

Even though the Creative variant offers better value for money only than the Pure Plus variant, it is still our top recommendation because of its pricing and good balance of features. It offers many must-have features which will improve your ownership experience. Even with this set of features, you may need to compromise with the value but if you don’t want to compromise then you should consider the Creative S variant.

If you are considering a higher variant, then you should consider the Accomplished S variant as it offers far superior features than any other variant. While Creative S offers a good set of features, it is still not as compelling as the Accomplished S variant.

For buyers who are considering Curvv specially for its body, should buy the base Smart variant and customize it with some aftermarket accessories. Alternatively, you can also consider the Pure Plus S variant.
