What Are The Pros And Cons?

The pros or advantages of Maruti Suzuki Brezza petrol/CNG are:

• Great fuel efficiency even with the inefficient fluid coupling automatic transmission
• Styling is likeable and has a mass appeal to please most buyers
• Maruti Suzuki’s wide service network means it’s easy to find an authorised service outlet, spares and an experienced mechanic
• Option of 3 powertrains (petrol-manual, petrol-auto and CNG-manual)
• On sale through CSD as well for our men and women in uniform
• Reasonably well-loaded base variant gets several must-have features like 6 airbags, rear armrest, ESC, HSA, split rear seats, projector headlamps, 5x 3-point seatbelts and remote central locking
• Healthy list of features include sunroof, tilt and telescopic steering, head-up display, 6 airbags, LED projector headlamps, cruise control, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, keyless entry with push-button start/stop
• The only B2-segment SUV with CNG bi-fuel option — No longer applicable as Nexon, Fronx and Taisor are available with a CNG-manual powertrain

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza petrol/CNG has the following shortcomings or problems:

• No turbo petrol and turbo diesel engine options available
• Automatic transmission is rather expensive at Rs. 1.50 lakh Rs. 1.40 lakh over the manual
• The fluid coupling in the torque converter automatic transmission makes it quite inefficient in stop-and-go traffic
• Higher variants are expensive for a B2-segment petrol SUV
• Considering the high price of the Brezza, it’s missing features like tyre pressure sensors (TPMS), auto wipers, ventilated front seats, ADAS, panoramic sunroof, rear window curtains and front parking sensors
• Poor feature distribution as something as basic as front armrest remains unavailable even in fairly well loaded ZXi variant, which gets (useless) features like sunroof and alloy wheels; rear camera, rear wiper and parcel tray are only available in the top 2 variants
• Gets a bunch of features with low functional value and high cost/perceived value such as head-up display, sunroof, telematics and alloy wheels
• Not a single automatic transmission variant under Rs. 10.0 lakh (or even close to Rs. 10.0 lakh); Nexon, Kiger, Magnite, C3 have a variant under Rs. 10.0 lakh while many other rivals have one not too far from Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom)

What Is The Price Of Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol, CNG Variants?

The Brezza petrol is available in 4 variants with a manual transmission with prices starting at Rs. 8.69 lakh for the LXI variant and going up to Rs. 12.58 lakh for the ZXI Plus variant. The higher 3 variants also offer the option of an automatic for an additional Rs. 1.40 lakh, which is considerably higher than what other carmakers typically charge for a CVT, DCT or TC automatic. The Brezza automatic variants cost between Rs. 11.15 lakh and Rs. 13.98 lakh.

The lower 3 variants of the Brezza also get a CNG bi-fuel option and cost Rs. 95,000 more than the comparable petrol-manual variants. The Brezza CNG variants’ ex-showroom prices start at Rs. 9.64 lakh and go up to Rs. 12.21 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza LXI – Base Model Features

The base LXI variant of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza SUV gets a 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol-manual and a 1.5L normal CNG-manual powertrain option. With the petrol engine, the Brezza LXI carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 8.69 lakh while the CNG variant costs Rs. 9.64 lakh.

The most notable features of the Brezza’s LXI base model are:

Considering the ex-showroom price, the base variant doesn’t get a few must-have features like:

• Front armrest
• TPMS
• Music system
• Auto AC
• Steering-mounted controls
• Rear defogger
• Rear washer wiper
• Height-adjustable driver seat

With the addition of standard features, the Brezza got more expensive but these features also make it acceptable for a majority of buyers. It offers a good value for money and is worth buying for a good number of Brezza buyers. The option of CNG in the base model also makes it suitable for buyers interested in a CNG SUV. Moreover, even with CNG bi-fuel option, it costs under Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Brezza LXI vs VXI Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

Besides the petrol-manual and CNG-manual, the VXI variant also adds the option of a petrol-automatic powertrain. The VXI variant costs Rs. 9.75 lakh with the petrol-manual, Rs. 11.15 lakh with the automatic and Rs. 10.70 lakh with the CNG powertrain. The VXI petrol-manual is Rs. 1.06 lakh pricier than the lower LXI variant. The automatic transmission costs Rs. 1.40 lakh over the manual while the CNG powertrain maintains a Rs. 95,000 premium like the base model.

The VXI variant gets the following additional notable features over the base LXI variant:

Even with the VXI variant, you may miss the following features:

• Front armrest
• Rear parcel tray
• Rear washer wiper
• TPMS

According to our algorithm, the incremental cost of Rs. 1.06 lakh for these features is quite high. While this variant includes useful must-have and good-to-have features, it offers extremely poor value for money over the LXI variant.  Hence, we don’t recommend this variant. So, it’s better to either stretch your budget for a higher variant or buy the base LXI variant and add aftermarket accessories.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol, CNG VXI vs ZXI Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The Brezza ZXI costs Rs. 11.26 lakh with the manual transmission and Rs. 12.66 lakh with the automatic. The ZXI CNG costs Rs. 12.21 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are Rs. 1.40 lakh more than the lower VXI trim with the comparable powertrain options.

The Brezza’s ZXI variant gets the following notable additional features over VXI:

Even in the ZXI variant, you will miss features like a front armrest and TPMS.

The ZXI variant easily justifies the incremental cost of Rs. 1.51 lakh over the VXI. Even compared to the base LXI variant, it justifies over 80% of the additional cost, despite higher taxes. Since it includes most essential and some good-to-have features, this is the ideal variant for most buyers, regardless of the chosen powertrain. It’s our top recommended variant for Brezza buyers.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol ZXI vs ZXI Plus Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The top-spec ZXI Plus manual costs Rs. 12.58 lakh while the automatic costs Rs. 13.98 lakh. The top model of the Brezza is Rs. 1.32 lakh pricier than the lower ZXI variant and it doesn’t get the CNG-manual powertrain option.

It gets the following notable additional features over the ZXI trim:

Even in the Brezza top model, you may miss the following features:

• Rear window curtains
• Front parking sensors
• Ventilated seats
• Auto wipers
• Panoramic sunroof
• ADAS features

The added features in this variant do not fully justify the incremental cost over the ZXI, making it less value-for-money. However, it is not extremely overpriced that you should skip this variant. For those buyers who are willing to pay a premium for features like an auto-dimming inside mirror, larger touchscreen, better sound system, and wireless charger can consider this upgrade. This verdict applies to both manual and automatic transmissions. For most Brezza buyers, though, the ZXI will suffice, which remains our top recommendation.

Which Variant Of The Maruti Suzuki Brezza Should You Buy?

The base variant of the Brezza is now better equipped than before, with features like side & curtain airbags, rear armrest and a 60-40 split rear seat becoming standard. However, for manual transmission, the ZXI variant remains our top recommendation as it offers a good balance of must-have and good-to-have features without compromising much on value. We suggest most buyers to go for at least the ZXI variant, but if you are on a strict budget, then you should go for the LXI variant and customize it as per your needs.

The ZXI Plus variant adds several safety and convenience features. While it offers less value-for-money compared to the ZXI, the added features slightly justify the premium over the lower variant. Upgrading from ZXI to ZXI Plus should be based on your feature preferences and budget. If you find the features of the ZXI Plus variant compelling enough, then you can consider buying it over the ZXI.

Just like the Brezza petrol-manual, the Brezza automatic’s VXI variant is expensive and lacks a few important features too. So, consider stretching your budget for the ZXI trim as it offers much better value for money over the VXI automatic. Just like the manual transmission, upgrading from ZXI to ZXI Plus variant is a personal choice, but you will slightly compromise on the value. It’s worth noting that the automatic transmission itself carries a premium of Rs. 1.40 lakh over the manual’s ex-showroom price. So, you’re paying a higher premium than what we expect for the convenience of automatic transmission.

For the Brezza CNG, the ZXI variant is our top recommendation as it provides the best balance of value and features. The mid-spec VXI doesn’t justify the value for the features it adds over the base model. Moreover, it also misses a few must-have features. We suggest you skip the VXI variant as it offers poor value for money. Budget buyers can choose the LXI variant and customize it as per their needs.

With the CNG powertrain too, you should buy either the base LXI or the ZXI variant. It’s worth noting that based on the additional ex-showroom price you’re paying for the CNG powertrain, the current fuel price in Delhi and the official mileage figures, our calculations suggest that you’ll have to drive the CNG model for around 60,000km just to recover the higher upfront cost. So, if you don’t intend to drive the Brezza for significantly more than 60,000km during the ownership, then it’s better to buy the petrol variants and enjoy the higher power and torque output along with a larger boot space.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol?

Among B2-segment non-turbo petrol SUVs, the Brezza has the biggest displacement of 1462cc. It offers the best power and torque figures as well. While offering better performance, the Brezza’s 1.5L mild-hybrid engine also promises better efficiency of almost 20kmpl with the automatic transmission after the Fronx and Taisor.

The Brezza’s non-turbo petrol engine has trouble competing with turbo petrol engines. The turbo petrol engines offer far better torque output for a wider RPM range to provide easier drivability at low to mid-range RPMs. In terms of power, the smaller 1.0L turbo petrol engines have no trouble matching or beating the Brezza’s 103PS figure. In terms of mileage, the Fronx and Taisor turbo petrol-manual beat the Brezza’s fuel efficiency figure.

Even among the B2-segment SUVs with 1.2L turbo petrol engine, Brezza is offering the best mileage figures after the Mahindra 3XO.

The Brezza, Fronx and Nexon are the only cars in its segment with a CNG powertrain. When running on CNG, it makes 88PS of power and 122Nm of peak torque. It has a mileage of 25.5kmpkg with the CNG fuel which is lower than the Fronx.

What Are The Dimensions Of The Maruti Suzuki Brezza?

In terms of dimensions, the Brezza is the tallest car in its segment and offers the widest tyres with the base variant. Its 200mm ground clearance is good but not class-leading like the Nexon’s 209mm clearance.
